Adriana Montano hopes to open Florida’s first cat café, a trend that is popular outside of the U.S. This establishment would be similar to a typical café except it is full of cats to watch or play with. Many cat cafés in other countries charge a cover to enter. The first cat café was opened in Taiwan in 1998, and eventually became a tourist attraction. Other countries that have followed suit include Japan, Singapore, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Hungary. If you’re looking for a U.S. based feline petting zoo/eatery combo you can visit Cat Town Café in Oakland, Planet Tails Cat Café in Naples, Denver Cat Company in Denver, Meow Parlour in NYC, The Cat Café in San Diego,  Purrington’s Cat Lounge in Portland, or Calico Nook in Franklin, MA. Many of the cats in these cafés are available for adoption. If Montano succeeds in opening her store, the café will have drinks like coffee, tea, lattés, sodas, juices, prepackaged foods, and potentially beer and wine. Activities might include open mic and painting with cats.
