The inspiration for Taaluma Totes came to founders Jack DuFour and Alley Heffren while traveling together in Uganda. Taaluma Totes are country specific travel backpacks made from traditional fabrics from all around the world. The totes are assembled in Virginia by adults with disabilities.
20% of the profits from a country’s tote are used to provide microloans to farmers and small business owners in that country. The microloans are repaid over time and Taluuma reinvests the money in more fabric. As of 2021 Taaluma Totes has provided more than $250,000 in microloans impacting more than 1,400 communities and counting.
