Crowned Skin Men’s Skincare

Darrell Spencer built Crowned Skin after several years working in digital advertising, where he helped large tech firms manage and scale marketing campaigns. That experience shaped how he approached business, but the idea for a skincare line came from a more personal observation. While shopping, he saw few products aimed at men, and even fewer that reflected his own needs and identity.

He had already started one business before this. In 2021, Spencer launched Kings Crowning, a line of satin-lined headwear for men, which grew from a storage unit operation into a profitable venture. That early success gave him capital and confidence to try something new. In 2024, he used those resources to start Crowned Skin, investing his own funds and building the product line from scratch.

Crowned Skin began with a narrow set of products. Body butters and oils formed the core of the line, designed to combine skin care with fragrance in a single routine. Spencer handled much of the early direction himself, drawing on his background in digital marketing to promote the products online. Social media played a central role, helping the brand reach customers without relying on traditional retail channels.

The operation remains closely tied to that model. Products are developed with a focus on direct-to-consumer sales, supported by online platforms and marketplaces. Spencer has also used public appearances and partnerships to expand visibility, including pitching the brand on Shark Tank and taking part in retail events connected to larger distributors.

Growth came quickly in its first year. Online demand increased through viral marketing, and revenue reached seven figures within months of launch. Spencer continued to expand the product range based on customer feedback, adding new items while keeping the core approach intact.

The path reflects a pattern seen in many small businesses. A founder identifies a gap, tests an idea with limited resources, and builds momentum through direct sales and online attention. In this case, the effort draws on Spencer’s earlier work in advertising and his first business, shaping how Crowned Skin developed from a single concept into an ongoing operation.
