Sheldon Wilder, creator of the Shemie, has been wildly successful—as a real estate agent.
The Shemie was a modern version of a woman’s slip. Shelton Wilder had worked for years as a buyer and personal stylist for Nordstrom’s and saw that women of all sizes needed comfortable, sophisticated, sexy slips. Two models accompanied her to the Shark Tank, one wearing a long slip, the other a romper version. The problem for Sheldon was that she had no business to pitch: no business plan, no sales, not much inventory. The sharks had to pass on investing.
Afterward, Sheldon made around $30,000 on Kickstarter and used it to start production and hit the fashion shows. She secured featured articles in top fashion magazines, such as Vogue, Teen Vogue, W, and Glamour. After that, the Shemie faded away. For a while, Sheldon kept up the website, but it was more about her thriving real estate business in Malibu. The original domain name for the Shemie now belongs to a company who sells lessons on how to win on slot machines.
The Shemie is no longer available.
