Dede Barbanti-Parra and Kathy Lamm brought with them two women and a man to vigorously demonstrate a Boogie Box Fitness routine. Kevin O’Leary commented that it looked very hard to do. To show him it wasn’t, they brought Kevin up to show him some exercises.
Dede, CEO of Boogie Box Fitness, weighed more than 200 pounds after giving birth to her third child. She had been a professional dancer and choreographer, until she quit working outside the home when her first child was born. So she drew on her dancing and martial arts experience to develop a workout based on the movements involved in hip hop, Latin dance, kickboxing and hardcore resistance training.
Kathy Lamm, COO, met Dede through a mutual friend. She loved the routines and became a partner in the business. They wanted an investment in order to be able to launch their Boogie Box Fitness DVDs. They had no sales yet, but they had made $15,000 with another side of the business, certifying teachers and teaching live classes.
They did not get a deal, but continued the business, changing the name to BBX, Inc. and producing their first DVD. At first, it seemed as though they had found a niche in the exercise DVD market. The exposure from Shark Tank put them on the map, and their fitness routines appeared on Dr. Oz, FitCeleb and FOX News.
Now there is no website, and their Facebook page has not been updated since 2017. Dede is a lifestyle coach, motivational speaker and author. Kathy is a successful insurance agent.
Boogie Box Fitness is no longer in business.
