Boobie Bars – Herbal Lactation Bars

Wendy Colson, RN, IBCLC, affectionately referred to as “Nurse Wendy,” specialized in maternal and infant health. Nurse Wendy is also a board certified lactation consultant and nursing was a frequent topic of discussion in her new mother support groups. While nursing a baby may seem to be just natural and instinctive, the reality is that many mothers and their infants experience difficulties ranging from minor to extreme.

Even mothers who experience little or no difficulty need proper nutrition. Nursing a child places extra demands on a woman’s body and in order to produce sufficient milk, she needs to be certain she is providing herself with the necessary milk-making ingredients on a daily basis.

At the same time, every new mother is tired and busy, and often struggles to find time in which to take care of herself. Many of the supplements available involve brewing teas or taking numerous capsules every day. Nurse Wendy realized how wonderful it would be for these mothers to have a healthy (but also tasty) food bar, containing all the necessary daily supplemental nutrition.

In her home kitchen, she experimented with different combinations of grains and spices, testing out her creations at her breastfeeding support group. The official Boobie Bar (patent pending) is a combination of oats, flax seeds, coconut oil, turmeric and moringa (as well as several other herbal ingredients known to help increase milk supply). They are gluten free, vegan, dairy free, non-GMO, and kosher, and come in different flavors, including peanut butter, blueberry coconut, and oatmeal chocolate chip. They became so popular that Nurse Wendy would sell out of them every week, and the members of her group encouraged her to make them available to women everywhere.

Boobie Bars were officially launched in April of 2015. They appeared on CNN on Mother’s Day in May of 2015. On February 3, 2016, “Chew” co-host Daphne Oz said she used them and called them “awesome.” On October 28, 2017, they were featured as a gift for new parents on WSLS10, Virginia News. On Facebook, Boobie Bar has over 2,000 followers, with numerous postings by mothers all over the country. In addition to being available through the website, Boobie Bars can be purchased on Amazon and in over 500 stores, including Babies R Us, throughout the United States.
