Sacha Inchi seeds, also known as the “Incan Peanut,” have been cultivated by the indigenous people of Peru for centuries. These seeds are an allergy-friendly superfood that is a major source of plant-based complete protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. In addition to being nutritious, Sacha Inchi seeds are also sustainably grown, providing fair wages to farmers in Thailand and Laos.
One of the unique things about Sacha Inchi seeds is that they are nut-free, despite having a nut-like texture and flavor. This makes them an excellent alternative for people with nut allergies. Additionally, the seeds are sustainably grown in regions with naturally high rainfall, meaning they require very little irrigation and do not tax the local water basin.
Sacha Inchi seeds contain up to 9 grams of complete protein per serving, making them one of the few plant-based complete proteins available. Brass Roots sources their Sacha Inchi seeds from their farming partner Chan, who is based in Thailand and Laos. Chan became a refugee in Thailand during the Vietnam War and fled to the U.S. with his family at the age of 13. Despite not knowing any English, he worked to provide for his family. After building a better life in America and receiving an education, Chan decided to return to Thailand. Using proceeds from the local Sacha Inchi seed agriculture, Chan has set up a K-12 school and a university to educate and empower youth and put them on a path towards success.
The company was founded in 2019 by Aaron Gailmor, the CEO, after his father’s heart condition drove him to learn more about nutrition. His goal was to create snacks that were nutritionally dense while still being delicious. Inspired by the optimism, perseverance, and community of New Orleans, Brass Roots was born.
In addition to its commitment to providing healthy snacks, Brass Roots also has a strong focus on community work and partnerships. The company has a partnership with the Mercy Foundation, an organization working to provide education and community development projects in Thailand and Laos. Additionally, Brass Roots provides free snacks and nutrition education to local organizations rooted in music education and youth empowerment. Through its donation programs, the company aims to positively impact the community and address the gap in access to healthy foods for people who are not as fortunate.
