Veba has created the world’s first smart bottle monitor that automatically tracks the expiration of breast milk and formula. Veba ensures that babies are getting the best nutrition possible, so that parents can focus their time and energy on what truly matters – their children.
Expired breast milk or formula can lead to the growth of bacteria and the breakdown of essential proteins, which can be detrimental to an infant’s health. Factors that impact milk expiration include elapsed time since pumping or preparation, feedings, and temperature. When babies consume spoiled breast milk or formula, they may experience frequent spitting up or vomiting, fever, and severe infection.
Veba’s smart bottle monitor constantly adjusts the expiration date of breast milk or formula based on when it was produced, the most recent feeding, and the ambient temperature around the bottle. The expiration dates are set according to the trusted guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
With a simple shake, the Veba monitor displays the expiration date directly on the bottle. It features a stretchable elastic band that allows it to slide onto most bottle designs, including plastic, silicone, and glass. The monitor is made from high-quality materials, is waterproof, and has a long battery life.
Veba also offers a companion app that allows users to log the volume of each feeding, get automatic updates when expiration dates are approaching, and check the status of multiple bottles. The app includes a “Find My Bottle” feature to locate missing bottles.
When a bottle is exposed to high temperatures or its expiration is approaching, the app sends automatic alerts to the user’s smartphone. The app also provides insights into each bottle, including who it is for, how long it will stay fresh, and color coding for easy identification. Users can log feedings, track intake, and view a schedule organized by child, bottle, date, time, and ounces consumed.
The app allows users to grant access to other caregivers, so they can feed the baby with confidence. It also offers tailored tips and milestones to support the user’s parenting journey based on the baby’s unique development.
Veba was founded by Sean Brewster and Veon Brewster. Veon is the CEO, leading product strategy and user research. She has over 10 years of product development experience with Salesforce and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Veon’s passion for data and analytics began in grade school, and she started her career as a data analyst investigating website traffic and user behavior. This led to her work in user experience research (UXR), where she focused on understanding what makes for a good or bad digital experience through human-centric design.
As a new mom, Veon struggled with managing breast milk expiration and wanted to ensure her baby was healthy and nourished. This necessity inspired her to create Veba, a device that could alleviate the pain point of manually tracking milk expiration for parents.
Veba’s technology tracks milk and formula expiration in accordance with CDC and WHO guidelines to ensure that users’ standards of freshness align with the best available science. The company is committed to safety, with the device being EMI and EMC tested and manufactured with baby-safe Bluetooth and silicone.
