Janna Badger and Nicki Radzley were engaged in successful careers in industrial design and marketing. As mothers, though, they encountered the same every day and seemingly minor problems that all parents face. One of these “small” problems is what to do when your baby’s pacifier falls to the floor. Even after washing the pacifier most parents still have some concern over whether the nipple is clean enough to put back into their child’s mouth.

Janna Badger was working at a design firm in San Francisco when she had the idea of a nipple that would magically disappear into a protective casing whenever the pacifier dropped from the child’s mouth and rolled to the floor—or any other dirty surface. Her employer was supportive of the idea and encouraged her to use some down-time to work on a prototype, as well as helping with the patent process. He also introduced her to Nicki Radzely. By that time, Janna had moved to Singapore. Despite living on opposite sides of the world, with a 14-hour time difference, Janna & Nicki co-founded Doddle & Co., using Skype and a strong belief in themselves and their unique product to overcome any difficulties caused by distance and time.

Janna and Nicki initiated a Kickstarter campaign in 2015, with a goal of $20,000. The campaign ended with 642 backers and $22,708. The patent was published on 11/12/15. On January 4, 2016, Pop was featured on the Tyra banks Show on ABC, and on January 7, 2016, selected for a pitch on the Meredith Viera Show. In 2017 the Pop received an Innovation Award from Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association and was named a Top Pick by Motherly Loves.

The Pop is a one-piece design, made of medical grade silicone, which meets US and EU safety standards. It is free of lead, PVC, BPA, latex and phthalates, and is available in a variety of bright colors. When the pacifier nipple is released, it immediately pops back into a silicone “cloud,” thereby protecting it from contact with whatever surface the pacifier lands on.

The name “Doddle” was chosen because it means an easily accomplished task. While it was a great deal of hard work to develop the product, Nicki and Janna are committed to making the lives of parents easier and simpler in any way they can. They are working on ideas for other products and have an informative blog on their website where parents can share experiences and give and receive support for any parenting problem or concern they may have.
